Beat the January blues with 5 helpful tips

8th January 2018
We’re all feeling it.. the season of celebrations are over, the weather is miserable and although it’s #newyearnewme the post-Christmas blues are kicking in.

Christmas was a time of action. You’ve been crazily buying presents, travelling to see the extended family, celebrating with friends, eating until you could burst and snoozing in the afternoon. Now that it’s over, the knock-on effect has landed and the 6am alarm could not be more real.

However, it doesn’t have to be this way. Here are some tips for beating the January blues:

  • 1. Sort your finances out

While this might sound dreary, organising your finances after the shopping sprees over Christmas can help you plan for the months ahead.

One way of saving pennies could be remortgaging, have you got the best rate? Our partner Hays Financial Centre offer excellent advice on all mortgage and financial service requirements.

Looking at your insurance premiums could also be another way of slashing costs. Insurance is a competitive market, we therefore recommend speaking to our affiliates Ellis David who offer expert advice from over 100 of the UK’s leading insurance companies.

After totalling up your pennies you can hopefully allow some money for spending on you and cheer yourself up using our tips below…

  • 2. Uplift your house

Once you’ve taken down the Christmas tree and sparkling lights, your home can end up feeling a little bare. This can be the perfect time to do essential maintenance and brighten up your home ready for the Spring. Take some time to acknowledge which walls may benefit from a lick of paint, or how you’d like to spruce up your living spaces. With the weather outside keeping you in, this is the perfect time of year to work on a new project.

We work with a number of high street and online business which offer a range of products that can help you uplift your home, click here to find out more.

  • 3. Make space

With the influx of Christmas presents and the odd decoration still lying around, your home may be feeling a little cluttered. January is the perfect time to make space and clear away those unwanted goods, especially when it’s windy and raining outside!

Our partner KwikSweep are experts at clearing out junk and rubbish from homes and gardens. They ensure all your waste is disposed of correctly, with as much being recycled and reused as possible.

  • 4. Do something more with your money

There’s nothing like kicking your year off with a bang than by doing something enterprising. Beat the January blues by focusing on something to invest in and watch those pennies grow.
