Limehouse is situated on the Northern Bank of the River Thames, forming part of the Borough of Tower Hamlets. Historically Limehouse was an important port with extensive docks, and the area established trades such as rope making and shipbuilding. Like many places, the closure of the docks impacted Limehouse greatly. However, the creation of the London Docklands Development Corporation introduced business back into the area.
