Wapping is south of Whitechapel
and east of Tower Bridge, located in the Borough of Tower Hamlets. First inhabited by the Saxons, Wapping has historically been an important naval area.
Wapping is a central but a quiet place to live; residents can take advantage of living close to the river whilst having access to green spaces, with the Hermitage Riverside Memorial Garden providing tranquility and stunning views of London. Many of the pubs are named after well-known seafarers and old ships, the most famous being the Prospect of Whitby which dates back from the 1500’s. You can also still find an execution dock which was used for over 400 years.
Period houses, historic warehouses, contemporary new developments and apartment blocks can be found, as well as cobbled streets on Wapping high street. There are also some live-in yachts and houseboats for those wanting to be closer to the water.
There are good transport links
with the Shadwell DLR and Wapping Overground station, both in Zone 2, connecting Wapping with the rest of London. Tower Hill tube station, in Zone 1, is on the Circle and District lines. Plus there are useful bus routes which go to Canary Wharf and the City.
The many schools
offer primary and secondary, special schools, religious schools and grammar schools. Ofsted ratings have been generally positive with many schools attaining ‘good’ and ‘outstanding’ scores.
