Lee Area Guide & Local Information: Lee is located within the London Borough of Lewisham and Travelcard Zone 3 and is also known as Lee Green. The Domesday Book of 1086 describes Lee as a 'small area of cultivation set in extensive woodland'. The earliest map available (1740) shows about a dozen houses clustered around a village green and surrounded by fields.

1866 saw the opening of Lee station, which was accompanied by further house-building projects at the crossroads of Hither Green and Lee. Lee railway station has regular trains into Charing Cross and is ideal for commuters.

Connections can be made at Lewisham for the DLR to Greenwich and further north to Canary Wharf. Lee has Victorian, Edwardian, pre and post-war housing that rub shoulders with new developments.

Lee's transport links to and from central London make it a popular option for city workers to live relatively close to work whilst surrounded by greenery.

House prices are more attractive than in nearby Blackheath. However, there are good local schools, abundant parks, and a strong sense of community. Manor House Gardens offers over 3.3 hectares of public parkland and gardens with a charming ornamental pond, flower garden and cafe.

Lee's shopping and dining revolve mostly around local parades of independent shops and cafeterias. Nearby Blackheath Village is popular for its more comprehensive selection of High Street options near Lewisham town centre. Bluewater Shopping Centre is a 20-minute drive along the A2.

Lee and Hither Green are the two local main railway stations, with trains stopping at London Bridge and Waterloo East. Blackheath Station is also within walking distance for residents north of Lee High Road. In addition, there are various bus routes around the area and access to A2 and A20 for car drivers.
