Rotherhithe Area Guide & Local Information: Rotherhithe is now primarily a residential area on the south side of the River Thames within the London Borough of Southwark. The peninsula has maritime connections. The historic pilgrim voyage of The Mayflower ship captained by Christopher Jones to America commenced here.
The voyage set sail from The Mayflower public house, which can still be visited and enjoyed today. This popular pub is found on Rotherhithe Street, which borders the peninsula from Rotherhithe Village to Surrey Docks Farm. Rotherhithe has intrinsic links with Surrey Quays and bustling Canada Water.
The former is a popular destination for retail therapy and entertainment. The latter is home to a Jubilee Line station, and Canary Wharf is one stop east. The 'Canada Water Masterplan' will see progressive development and improvement of the area and further uplift Rotherhithe.
